Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe, non-invasive therapy that increases oxygen supply to cells and tissues.

It works by placing you inside a pressurised chamber where you breathe oxygen-enriched air at greater-than-normal atmospheric pressure.

Henry's physics states that the amount of dissolved gas in a liquid is proportional to its partial pressure above the liquid.

At a greater pressure, additional oxygen dissolves into the blood plasma and enters the tissues directly. This supports the body's natural recovery processes and helps the body reach a state of balance and wellbeing.

The Nexus operates from 1.0 to 2.0 ATA. Pressure is adjustable within that range and is set to your comfort level. The AirPod operates at 1.35 ATA.

ATA stands for atmospheres absolute. One ATA is normal air pressure at sea level. Two ATA is equivalent to the pressure at ten metres of seawater.

The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society defines hyperbaric oxygen therapy as taking place at 1.4 ATA or above. Most published research has been conducted at 2.0 ATA.

The Nexus is a hard-shell seated chamber reaching 2.0 ATA, with oxygen delivered through the W-ISBS mask at 10 to 30 litres per minute. It is our primary chamber.

The AirPod operates at 1.35 ATA and allows you to lie down. It suits anyone who prefers a lower pressure session or a reclined position.

The Wellness Individual Safety Breathing System is an enclosed breathing interface fitted to the Nexus.

Open masks and nasal cannulas vent exhaled breath and surplus oxygen back into the chamber, raising the oxygen concentration of the sealed internal atmosphere. The W-ISBS routes exhaled gas away from the occupied space, which holds the chamber atmosphere at or near ambient oxygen concentration.

Sixty minutes at pressure. Allow approximately ninety minutes in total, including pressurisation and depressurisation.

The chamber pressurises gradually over about ten minutes. During this period you will feel fullness in your ears, similar to the descent of an aircraft.

Once at pressure there is no further sensation. Most people read, listen to audio, or sleep.

Depressurisation takes a further ten minutes. Ears generally clear on their own.

Yes. Equalise as you would on a flight, by swallowing, yawning, or pinching your nose and blowing gently.

The operator controls the rate of descent and will pause or stop if you are unable to equalise. Persistent difficulty equalising should be discussed with your doctor before further sessions.

The Nexus has dual panoramic windows and a seated configuration. You remain in visual and verbal contact with the operator for the full session.

If you wish to end a session early the chamber is depressurised and you are not charged. The AirPod is available as a lie-down alternative.

No. The Nexus has an integrated air conditioning unit. Temperature and cooling rate are adjustable from inside the chamber.

All-cotton clothing. No synthetic fabrics, hair product, oils, lotions, makeup or aerosols. Remove jewellery before entering.

Electronic devices, lighters and batteries are not permitted in the chamber under any circumstances. This is standard practice in every hyperbaric facility.

Every session is supervised by a certified operator present for the full duration. A health screening is completed before your first session.

Middle ear barotrauma is the most commonly reported effect and is usually mild. Sinus pressure and tiredness following a session also occur.

Repeated sessions over an extended course may cause temporary short-sightedness, which reverses on completion.

Serious adverse events are rare.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is contraindicated in anyone with an untreated pneumothorax.

Speak to us and to your doctor before booking if you have had recent ear or sinus surgery, have a current chest infection or blocked sinuses, significant lung disease, a pacemaker or implanted device, an uncontrolled seizure disorder, are undergoing chemotherapy, or are pregnant.

Your health screening will identify anything requiring medical clearance.

Our Nexus chamber is manufactured by Cell Life under an ISO 9001 quality management system with IBUM-ratified compliance documentation. We work alongside Hyperbaric O2 Gold Coast, an IBUM-certified hyperbaric centre with technicians trained in compliance with ATMO and IHA standards.

Social Remedy is a wellness centre, not a clinic. Where a condition requires clinical supervision or pressures above 2.0 ATA, we refer to Hyperbaric O2 Gold Coast rather than proceed with a session.
